Born in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopian in April, 1975, Gossaye Tesfaye grew up in locality known as “Merkato”, labeled as the largest open market in Africa. Gossaye started his elementary education at Yekatit 23 elementary school, after which he followed up and completed secondary school at Kolfe Comprehensive Secondary School. In this period, he was part of the gospel group that sang in the local church call Raguel.
Gossaye’s singing career started during his high school days, when he used to sing and entertain fellow students as member of a music group formed by the students “Red Cross Society”. After performing as a student singer for approximately five month with the above mentioned group, Gossaye jointly help creat a music and theater group called “Mestawet” with his peers. Using this platform, he built up his career along with other Ethiopian vocalist of his generation. This was in the year 1994-97. He was quickly recruited by various bands to perform at established night clubs of the day.
He was first hired by the “Kistane Band” where he performed approximately for two years. The well known restaurant and club called “Shewaget” was the place where Gossaye performed for four years and went on to become admired by many music lovers. Apart from his wonderful voice, he is also talented in composing melodies.
Having released the following four music albums entitled Sofi (1999), Take Five (2000), Evangadi (2002) and Satamahagn Bila (2007), Gossaye has become one of the well-reputed young artist of our time. He has also released several singles in-between album production. Due to his popularity, he is one of the most in demand artist to travel the world and perform at big events and concerts. He is currently working on his fifth album to be release soon. This highly anticipated album is given the title 'Yale Fikir Kentu' and is expected to be out for Ethiopian Christmas.
Gossaye is also well known in his participation in community works such as child labor issues, under age marriages awareness, traffic accident prevention campaigns, orphanage fund raisers and HIV awareness.
